Girls' basketball and wrestling slates begin

Eighth-grade

girls’ basketball

     Monticello opened its eighth-grade girls’ basketball season with a convincing 33-11 home victory over North Cedar Oct. 30.

     The team had a balanced scoring attack, with Brea Stahlberg and Jaelyn Aitchison scoring seven points apiece, Reagan Schneiter adding six, Katie Roher scoring five, and Nora Sperfslage and Madison Butterworth getting four points apiece.

     On Nov. 1, the Panthers played at Cascade, and split the two games. The A team lost 31-20. Butterworth led Monticello with seven points, Schneiter, Roher and Stahlberg had four points apiece; and Aitchison added one point.

     The B team won 8-4, as Bella Mullen had four points, while Aleasha Schilling and Grace Cooksley had two points apiece.

     Next, the Panthers traveled to Bellevue for a pair of games Nov. 8. The A team lost 30-22 despite eight points from Schneiter, five from Butterworth, four from Roher, three from Aitchison and two from Stahlberg.

     In the B game, Bellevue won 34-12. Scoring for Monticello were Mullen and Schilling with four points apiece, Emily Hendricks and Cooksley with two each.

Seventh-grade

girls’ basketball

     Three dates opened the seventh-grade girls’ basketball season for Monticello.

     The Panthers started out with two games at home against North Cedar, splitting them. Monticello Red won 30-10, and Monticello White lost 9-4.

     At Cascade Nov. 1, Monticello Red lost 28-23, while Monticello White fell by a score of 6-2.

     The Monticello teams played host to Bellevue Nov. 8, with the Red losing 27-21 and the White suffering a 23-8 defeat.

Wrestling

     The first match of the Monticello Middle School wrestling season was a good one for the Panthers, as six wrestlers posted undefeated records in the Nov. 5 meet at Bellevue.

     Cael Sampson went 3-0 for the day. Posting 2-0 records were Bryce Cleeton, Jonah Luensman, Dylan Roher and Ian Taylor. Kale Hansen was 1-0.
