Give a Lion’s share of life

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor and Monticello community,

The Monticello Lions Club will be assisting at the Red Cross blood drive on Tuesday, Sept. 14, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Monticello Berndes Center located at the Jones County Fairgrounds.

We understand that some people may be hesitant to donate at this time, but the Red Cross has made additional precautions to ensure the safety of donors and staff, as well as the blood supply, including:

     1. Checking the temperatures of staff and donors before entering the blood drive to make sure they are healthy.

     2. Providing hand sanitizer for use before the blood drive, as well as throughout the donation process.

     3. Spacing beds where possible to follow social distancing practices between blood donors.

     4. Increasing enhanced disinfecting of surfaces and equipment.

Individuals who are at least 17 years of age (16 years with written parental permission), weigh at least 100 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood.

To make an appointment, please call 800-733-2767 or visit redcrossblood.org. Walk-in donors are always welcome to donate blood.

Remember, GIVE A LION’S SHARE OF LIFE. You could be helping a family member, friend, or a stranger. Please donate blood; it could be a life-giving experience.

Thank you,

John Lacock and the

Lions blood drive committee
