Great Give Day on May 9 helps support local non-profits

The Jones County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque, is pleased to announce Great Give Day will take place on Thursday, May 9.

Great Give Day is a 24-hour, online giving event established by the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque to celebrate and support area non-profits and build a stronger community. Since 2014, Great Give Day has raised more than $1.5 million for non-profits across the region. Last year, the campaign collected over 2,500 gifts, attracted 562 first-time donors, and raised over $230,000 for local non-profits.

The event is open to all non-profits with endowment funds at the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque or one of its affiliate foundations. This year, 170 non-profits throughout Dubuque, Allamakee, Clayton, Delaware, Jackson, Jones, and Clinton counties will participate.

Community members are invited to visit GreatGiveDay. org to support their favorite participating non-profits with online donation of $10 or more. Gifts can be made on May 9 or scheduled now; scheduled gifts will be processed on Great Give Day. All gifts will go directly to non-profits, and all donations must be made online with a credit/debit card of banking account.

Great Give Day donations are 100 percent tax deductible, and gifts of $50 or more to non-profits directing donations to their endowment funds are also eligible for the generous Endow Iowa 25% State Tax credit. Of the participating non-profits in Jones County, those marked with an asterisk are directing gifts to their endowment funds:

• Amber Community Club*

• Anamosa Community School Foundation*

• Anamosa Library Endowment Fund*

• Aquin Catholic Elementary*

• Camp Courageous

• Cascade FFA Alumni*

• Jones County Community Foundation*

• Jones County Historical Society

• Jones County Safe and Healthy Youth Coalition*

• Jones Regional Medical Center Foundation*

• Jones Soil & Water Conservation District*

Throughout the day, non-profits will compete for additional hourly and grand prizes funded by local sponsors. Community members can view the prize schedule at GreatGiveDay. org to see when donations might help their favorite non-profits win additional dollars.

On May 9, the leaderboard at GreatGiveDay.org will reflect all donations in real time – so donors can track the total amount raised as well as the progress of their favorite organizations. Visitors can search for non-profits by organization name, ZIP code, or category, such as “animals” or “education.”

“The community really comes together on Great Give Day, showcasing Northeast Iowa’s spirit of giving, raising awareness about local non-profits, and celebrating the collective effort it takes to make our region great,” said Wendy Sweeney, non-profit partnership coordinator at the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque. “We are proud to support our region’s strong non-profits and connect them with its generous donors through this event.”

Great Give Day is powered by the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque and presenting sponsor Theisen’s Home•Farm•Auto. It is additionally sponsored by Dupaco, Klauer Manufacturing, American Trust & Savings Bank, Dubuque Bank & Trust, The Vogt Group, and the Foundation for the Future of Delaware County. Media sponsors include the Telegraph Herald and Radio Dubuque.
