Last week, the Monticello Heritage and Cultural Center was pleased to announce the 10 local artists chosen as part of the Spring Fine Art Show. The art show was set to begin March 22 and run through May 3.

Due to the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), and the State of Iowa’s regulations, the Heritage Center was unfortunately forced to shut its doors to visitors, in an effort to protect the volunteers, guests, and artists.

The 10 artists chosen for the art show included:

     • Kirk Freese

     • Maria White

     • Buffy Clark

     • Sharon Helgens

     • Laura Larabee

     • Lisa Stark

     • Dianna Rucker

     • Julie Spier Pauly

     • Molli Hunter

     • Rosie Hendricks

“I have to be honest,” stated Heritage Center volunteer and board member Bob Hendricks, “there were some incredible talent.”

The Heritage Center will be closed until May 3, and the board hopes to reschedule the art show for a later date.

In an effort to continue to inspire the community through art, and turn a negative situation into a positive, the Heritage Center came up with “Creativity Kills Corona Online Art Show.”

The concept is pretty simple… People of all ages can post a picture of anything they’ve created on the Heritage Center’s Facebook page. This could be a painting, pottery, quilts, painted rocks, kids’ artwork, woodwork, sculptures, paper art, etc.

“Get creative and show us what you’ve made,” encouraged Hendricks.
