Highway 64 accident results in fatality
A two-vehicle accident last week on Highway 64 in rural Anamosa resulted in a fatality.
On Jan. 4 at 5:20 p.m., Linda D. Wentland, 75, of Wyoming was driving a 2004 Toyota Corolla on 64 near 140th Avenue when she crossed into oncoming traffic. Wentland then struck Raymond Joseph Sauser, 62, of Dyersville, who was driving a 2016 Jeep Cherokee. The impact was almost head-on. Wentland’s vehicle came to rest in the center of the roadway. Sauser’s vehicle ended up in the north ditch.
Wentland was not wearing a seatbelt. She was flow to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City by Lifeguard Air Ambulance. As a result of her injuries, Wentland passed away.
Sauser was transported by Anamosa Ambulance to St. Luke’s Hospitals in Cedar Rapids for his injuries.
The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. Assisting at the scene were the Jones County Sheriff’s Office, Lifeguard Air Ambulance, Anamosa Ambulance, Anamosa Fire Department, and Olin Fire Department.
