Hopkinton library celebrates 75th anniversary

This year marks the 75th year that the City of Hopkinton has officially had the privilege of calling The Hopkinton Public library their own. Prior to the city council’s unanimous vote to take on the library, it was run by the local Kensington Club and was also a traveling library for some time. There have been five librarians over the years and the current building, an old Farmer’s State Bank building, became the library’s home in the 1970s.

The current librarian, Kim Albright, has worked hard to expand the programing offered by this small-town library. Regular special events that draw visitors from near and far include the Tremendous Tuesday’s summer reading and lunch program, haunted October speakers and events, escape rooms, trivia nights, sound healing, and a book club.

In honor of the 75th anniversary, the Friends of the Hopkinton Library group is hosting a family fun “Color Craze” fundraiser event. In this untimed 1.5-mile walk/run, participants will be doused in color at four different color stations around Hopkinton. Games and food are available at the finish line.

The event will take place on Saturday, April 29, at Memorial Park in Hopkinton. Registration paid prior to April 15 is $10 per person or $30 per family and increases after April 15.
