Hopkinton teen dies in motorcycle accident

Caleb Jurgens, a 15-year-old from rural Hopkinton, was killed in a motorcycle-truck accident at around noon on Sunday, May 21.
The incident took place on County Road X-47 in Delaware County.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, Jurgens was driving a 1967 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound on X-47 when he crossed the centerline.
Twenty-four-year-old Austin Schwendinger of Epworth was driving a 2013 Ford F-150 pickup, traveling northbound, when he hit Jurgens head-on.
The motorcycle came to rest on the roadway; Schwendinger’s truck ended up in the east ditch.
Jurgens was pronounced dead at the scene.
Schwendinger and his passenger, Kaitlyn Schwendinger, 25, received minor injuries. They were not transported for their injuries.
The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. Assisting at the scene were the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Hopkinton Fire and EMS, Leonard-Muller Funeral Home, and Tegeler’s Towing.
