Hunt urges donors to act now for Endow Iowa Tax Credit

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor,

As of Jan. 15, only $2.8 million of the $6 million in Endow Iowa 25 Percent State Tax Credits allotted for 2018 remain, and that number is steadily decreasing.

Gifts of $50 or more to any endowed fund at the Jones County Community Foundation (JCCF) benefitting an Iowa charity are eligible for this 25 percent state tax credit. The Community Foundation holds endowments for non-profits throughout Jones County, and can accept most any asset, including gifts of cash, stock, insurance, gifts of grain, and charitable IRA rollovers.

Credits are given on a first-come, first-served basis until remaining 2018 tax credits are claimed. At that time, qualified donors will be eligible and first in line for 2019 credits. Qualified donors can carry forward the tax credit for up to five years after the year the donation was made.

This means not only is it important to make your gift, but to fill out and return your Endow Iowa application as quickly as possible.

Last year, JCCF endowment funds paid out more than $52,000 to support area non-profits. These funds are invested and pay out 5 percent annually to the designated non-profits, providing a reliable source of income to sustain organizations’ operations forever.

These funds help to sustain the crucial missions of non-profits in Jones County so they can continue to enrich lives in Jones County forever. Each fund is unique to a donor’s dreams for the future of Jones County.
