IPPA honors Jones County organization

Iowa counties with organized and active local pork groups were recognized by the Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA) at the Iowa Pork Congress in January, for their 2019 efforts to grow membership and increase local activities.

The Jones County Pork Producers (JCPP) were among 33 county groups that exceeded membership goals for the year. The organization was also among 32 counties honored for having an active presence in their communities.

Also at the event, the Jones County Pork Producers won the Best County Promotion Program Award. The group sponsored its first ever Pork-er Ride, patterned after popular poker rides. The scenic ATV/UTV ride through Jones County involved more than 100 people who made several stops for food, conversation and more; and raised $1,400 for local youth scholarships.

Jones County won $250 in credit to the Iowa Pork Store, which allows the organization to buy various items to help promote pork to many kinds of audiences.

“The Iowa Pork Producers Association is as strong as our producer members and their county organizations across the state,” said Ryan Pudenz of Ames, IPPA chairman.

Statewide, membership grew by nearly three percent, Pudenz noted during the event.
