Jones Co. fugitive found, arrested

The Jones County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the media and the public for disseminating information, which led to the capture of Frank Thomas Young, age 29, of Anamosa.

At 8:32 a.m. on May 9, the Jones County Sheriff’s Office received information from a citizen that a family member of the fugitive was seen at an apartment once shared by Young and his wife. The Anamosa Police Department arrived within three minutes of the call. He was found hiding in the apartment and was taken into custody without incident.

This incident started on Saturday, May 6 at approximately 5 p.m. when the Jones County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a residence outside Oxford Junction. The caller reported Frank Young was at his residence and was trying to take a child. Young’s wife had been staying at a relative’s house along with the child. There is a valid no-contact order on file listing Frank Young as the defendant and his wife and toddler son as the protected party. Young was able to grab the child and left the residence in a vehicle.

The Sheriff’s Office put out an attempt to locate the subjects in Jones County and surrounding counties on the defendant and his vehicle. The Sheriff’s Office was in the process of entering an Amber Alert when the suspect’s vehicle was located in Cedar County by a Cedar County Deputy. During the attempted stop, the deputy’s patrol vehicle was damaged. Young left the child behind and fled into a wooded area on foot. The child was recovered, uninjured. The search for the defendant was called off due to darkness.

Young is being held in the Jones County Jail on charges of violation of a protective order, violation of custodial order (parental abduction), domestic abuse assault (simple misdemeanor), and voluntary absence from custody (escape from work release). More charges are expected in the coming days.
