Joyce Benton

Joyce Benton, age 89, died Friday, March 13, 2026 in Brighton, Colo., after a long illness.

Joyce Aileen Bader was born July 12, 1936 in Monticello, Iowa, and was the daughter of Henry and Clara Zeadow Bader. Joyce and her twin sister, Jean, graduated with the senior class of Monticello High School in 1954. Following that she studied at the business school in Cedar Rapids.

Joyce married H. Lee Benton on Oct. 21, 1955, at Peace United Church of Christ in Monticello. Joyce and Lee settled in Cedar Rapids where they raised their three children Steven, Denise, and Daniel.

In addition to being a twin herself, she was the mother of twins, Denise and Daniel, and was a devoted member of the Mother of Twins Club where she made many lifelong friends. Joyce worked as a para at Washington High School for many years. After retirement, she and Lee moved to the countryside near Anamosa. There she was an active member of Peace United Church. Her hobbies included letter writing to her many friends and spending time with her grandchildren.

Joyce is survived by two of her children, Steven (Mindy) Benton of Minnesota, Denise (John) Kasza of Colorado; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Paul and Raymond; her sister, Jean; her son Daniel; and her husband Lee.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at Peace United Church of Christ in Monticello. A private family burial will be held at Wilcox Cemetery in rural Anamosa. Pastor Jon Kyte will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 9:30 until 11 a.m. at the church.

Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello has taken Joyce and her family into their care. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the music fund at Peace United Church.
