JRMC nurse named to top 100

Jake Matzen

A UnityPoint Health – Jones Regional Medical Center (JRMC) nurse has recently been named to the 100 Great Iowa Nurses of 2020. Jake Matzen has been a nurse at JRMC for seven years and works in the Emergency Department.

The 100 Great Iowa Nurses award recognizes nurses that have made meaningful, lasting contributions to their patients, colleagues, and the nursing profession, and are viewed as mentors to other nursing professionals.

“Jake will spend hours trying to find a solution for a patient, he sees it as a challenge and takes it on to find the best outcome for our patients,” said Steph Voss, JRMC Manager-RN Emergency Department. “Jake goes above and beyond to make any patient that he takes care of feel that they are the only patient in the Emergency Department at that time and gives them his full attention.”

At JRMC, Matzen has been involved in planning disaster drills, improving education for the Emergency Department, implementing “hip pocket” training, and training ultrasound-guided IV usage.
