JRMC receives CMS five-star rating

UnityPoint Health – Jones Regional Medical Center (JRMC) has received, for the second time in a row, the highest rating in patient experience from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS).

CMS Hospital compare recently updated its Hospital Quality Star Ratings and JRMC was one of 266 hospitals in the U.S. to receive a five-star rating. CMS uses metrics from the Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting (IQR) Program and Hospital Outpatient Quality Report (OQR) Program to determine star ratings for more then 4,500 hospitals nationwide.

“This is a fantastic award for our entire team and a reflection of their hard work,” said Eric Briesemeister, JRMC CEO. “This recognition is about having great relationships with our patients and their families. Our whole staff – from registration, dietary, housekeeping, nursing to physicians – are focused on developing and nurturing relationships with everyone we encounter. Those efforts were especially visible during the recent derecho that hit Eastern Iowa. our team focused on the task at hand and came through that trial with flying colors.”

According to CMS, it calculates overall star ratings using the hospital consumer assessment of healthcare providers and systems (HCAHPS). CMS has created the HCAHPS Star Ratings in order to enable consumers to more quickly and easily assess the patient experience of care information that is provided on the Hospital Compare website. Star ratings will allow consumers to more easily compare hospitals.

JRMC is one of only 13 hospitals in Iowa to receive a five-star rating for patient experience from CMS. JRMC also received a five-star rating as a hospital overall in January 2020.
