On Friday, June 5, UnityPoint Health – Jones Regional Medical Center (JRMC) staff and healthcare professionals took part in a nationwide moment of silence at noon. The occasion marked a moment of reflection and commitment toward improving the health and safety of people of color.

Before JRMC staff took a knee, some meaningful words were read:

“Thank you for taking time out of your day to pause and reflect with us in regard to the recent and unsettling events throughout our country.

“While in the middle of a worldwide pandemic, we now find ourselves in the midst of yet more uncertainty. Many people are feeling heartbroken and angry, in addition to the fear and uncertainty that already exists due to COVID-19.

“While our communities work to find peace and healing, it is important for everyone to know our mission: To improve the health of the people and communities we serve. Our top priority is to provide the best possible care for anyone who needs us and make our spaces as safe as possible for patients, families, providers, and team members. We remain actively committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion for every person, in order to create environments that celebrate our differences. All are welcome at UnityPoint Health.

“For those that wish to and are able to, you are welcome to knee and devote a moment of silent reflection and commitment to improve the health and safety of people of color and all individuals who come to us seeking care.”
