JV falls to Regina, Cascade

BOYS BASKETBALL

This past week the Monticello junior varsity boys’ basketball team absorbed consecutive conference losses to Iowa City Regina and Cascade.

On Tuesday, Dec. 13, the Panthers traveled to Regina and were dominated by the Regals throughout. The Regina full court press rattled the young Panthers throughout the contest. Monticello’s offense was never on track due to multiple turnovers and dismal shooting. The Regals raced to a 35-12 halftime lead and coasted to a dominating 57-22 win. Will Rieniets led Monticello’s scoring with seven points.

On Friday, Dec. 16, the Panthers hosted Cascade. Monticello turned in a fine defensive effort, holding Cascade to just 29 points. However, the Panthers continued to struggle on offense with poor shooting and turnovers. The game’s second half exemplified Monticello’s offensive woes. The stout Panther defense and hard play limited Cascade to just 12 second half points. However, the Panther offense could only manage to score 13 points. The Cougars prevailed 29-23. Daltyn Kramer and Will Rienets led Monticello with seven points each.

The Monticello JV contest with Midland on Saturday was cancelled due to the weather. The junior varsity boys go into the Christmas break with a 2-4 record in the River Valley Conference.
