JV gets opening win at Bellevue

VOLLEYBALL

Fifteen service aces were a big part of the equation as the Monticello junior varsity volleyball team opened the season with a 25-12, 25-10 win at Bellevue Sept. 3.

Ace leaders included Emma Porter with four, and Jordan Fangmann, Lacie Koppes and Keziah McQuillen with three apiece.

Kendra Mescher, Koppes and McQuillen had five kills apiece. Porter made 16 assists and served 9-for-10. Jaelyn Aitchison and Piper Hansen had two kills each.

Defensively, Fangmann led the team in digs with six, while Aitchison had four, Koppes and McQuillen had two apiece. Emma Sperfslage had one assist, one ace and one dig.

“This was a very successful and fun evening to start the season,” Monticello coach Kylie Nagel said. “Our offense came from all five of our hitters, who were swinging hard. Finishing the night with 15 service aces also added to the offense, and is something we’ve been working on.”
