Junior varsity

   With a three-set victory against Cascade, the Monticello junior varsity volleyball team won the championship of its own tournament Sept. 10 at Monticello Middle School.                                 

   The Panthers won four pool play matches to reach the final, and then defeated Cascade 15-21, 21-14, 15-11 in the championship match.

   Monticello opened with a 21-6, 19-21, 15-8 win over Springville. Mya Hansen had 12 assists, six digs and two kills. Aleasha Schilling had six aces, six digs and two kills. Reagan Schneiter had four kills, four digs and two aces. Gabi Barnhart had four kills, four digs and three aces. Kinzi Schlarmann had four digs. Bella Mullen and Raegan LaGrange each had two kills. Kendra Jacobs had two digs.

   Against Anamosa, the Panthers won 23-21, 21-16. Hansen had 15 assists, nine digs and two kills. Schlarmann had nine digs and two aces. Barnhart had five kills and six digs. Mullen had five kills. Schilling had six digs, three kills, two aces and two assists. Schneiter had three digs. LaGrange had four aces and two digs.

   The Panthers then played Cascade the first time, winning 22-20, 22-20. Hansen had 14 assists, eight digs and two kills. Schlarmann had 11 digs. Schilling had 10 digs and two kills. Mullen had five kills and four digs. Barnhart had seven digs and five kills. LaGrange had four kills. Jacobs had seven digs. Schneiter had three digs.

   Monticello then played the Panther sophomore team, and won 21-14, 21-10. Hansen had 16 assists and six digs. Schlarmann had 10 digs. Schilling had nine digs. Barnhart had five kills and seven digs. Mullen had seven kills. LaGrange had three kills, four aces and three digs. Schneiter had four kills. Jacobs had three digs and two aces.

   In the championship match, Hansen had 16 assists, 10 digs, three aces and two kills. Mullen had 10 kills and four digs. Barnhart had 11 digs and three kills. Schlarmann had nine digs and two assists. Schilling had seven digs. LaGrange had four kills and two aces. Jacobs had six digs. Schneiter had two kills.

   Earlier, the Panthers opened their season by splitting a pair of matches.

   At Easton Valley Aug. 30, the Panthers won by scores of 21-12 and 21-9. Mullen had six kills. Schlarmann had 14 digs. Hansen had 17 assists, three digs and two aces. LaGrange had five kills, and Schneiter had four kills. Barnhart had four digs, three kills and three aces. Olivia Zimmerman had three digs, and Schilling had two digs. Hailey Henderson served an ace, and Jacobs had one dig.

   At Bellevue Sept. 1, Monticello lost 21-25, 13-25. Hansen put up 13 assists, and had five digs. Schlarmann had four digs and three aces. Mullen had five kills. Barnhart had four kills and two digs. Schneiter had two kills and three digs. Zimmerman had four digs. LaGrange had two kills and two digs.

   The Panthers then played at Iowa City Regina Sept. 6, and won by scores of 21-17, 10-21, 15-3. Hansen had 11 assists and seven digs. LaGrange had seven aces and three digs. Barnhart had seven kills and seven digs. Schlarmann had 20 digs. Schneiter had three kills. Zimmerman had two digs.

   Back home Sept. 8, the Panthers defeated Anamosa 25-17, 25-19. Schlarmann had 15 digs in that match. Hansen put up 11 assists and seven digs. Schneiter had four kills. Schilling had two kills. LaGrange had four aces and three digs. Barnhart had three digs and two kills. Mullen had two kills. Zimmerman had two aces and two digs. Jacobs had three digs.

 

Eighth-grade

team

   Monticello’s eighth-grade volleyball team faced three opponents in the early stages of its season.

   The Panthers played at Bellevue Sept. 1. The A team won 21-15, 21-10, 21-11. Addison Norton served 11-for-12 with four aces, and had three assists. Greta Cooper had two kills and two digs. Emma Kromminga served 10-for-10 with three aces and two assists. Karley Tobiason had three kills. Avery Jurgens served four aces, and Peyton Ries served three.

   The B team split two sets, 15-9 and 12-15. Marissa Speltz served 8-for-8 with three aces.

   At Iowa City Regina Sept. 6, the Panther A team lost 18-21, 21-15, 4-15. Norton served eight aces and had three assists. Kayla Shady had two aces and two digs.

   Monticello split four sets in the B match, winning 15-11, 15-12 and losing 6-15, 12-15. Macky Marlowe had four aces, and Jessica Kracke had two.

   Monticello played host to Anamosa Sept. 8. The A team won 21-13, 21-19, 15-17. Cooper had six aces and four digs. Ries had two kills and three digs. Kromminga had two aces, two assists and two digs. Stella McDermott had two kills. Norton had six aces and three assists. Brynn Schmit had three digs. Shady served two aces.

   The Panthers won the B match 15-11, 15-12, 10-15, 16-14. Meghan Besler had five digs. Laila Atkinson had two assists. Bailey Brenneman had four aces, while Adalyn Monk and Kracke had three apiece. Skylar Christensen served 4-for-4.  

 

Seventh-grade

team

   The seventh-grade volleyball Panthers opened their season with matches at Bellevue Sept. 1. The A team won 21-19, 16-21, 15-13. Kylee McElmeel had two kills and two assists. Charlett Smith had three assists. Alex Shover served three aces, and Emily Leytem served two.

   In the B/C match, the Panthers won 15-9, 15-17, 10-4. Gemma Haas served four aces, while Elianna Hanna, Amber Christiansen, Aliyah Camp and Maddy Chaney had two apiece.

   At Iowa City Regina Sept. 6, Monticello’s A team won 21-8, 21-10. Kylee McElmeel had two kills and four aces. Smith had three aces and two assists. Mallory McElmeel had two kills.

   The B/C team won two of six sets, with scores of 19-17, 11-15, 15-9, 6-15, 11-15, 11-15. Lizzy Eilers served seven aces, Lily Kraus had four and Ava Gatena had two. Getting two kills apiece were Jordan Stoll, Ava Galliano and Haas.

   On Sept. 8, the Panthers played host to Anamosa. The A team lost 11-21, 21-15, 9-15. Smith had a kill, and Kylee McElmeel served an ace.

   The B/C team rallied to win 7-15, 5-15, 15-11, 15-12, 5-1. Eilers had four aces.
