JV Panthers have pair of matches

Junior varsity

     Monticello’s junior varsity volleyball team faced a pair of tough foes in recent action.

     The Panthers (4-7) played at Cascade Sept. 19, and lost in three sets, by scores of 22-25, 25-22, 11-15. Emma Sperfslage put up 18 assists in the match. Piper Hansen had five kills and two digs, while Lainey Fellinger had four kills and two digs. Emma Hynick had three kills, and Maddie Tobiason had two. Leah Holub had eight digs.

     “The girls were aggressive in their hitting, served accurately, and have improved immensely on their serve receive,” Monticello coach Jenna Peters said.

     On Sept. 20, Monticello played host to Tipton, and lost three sets, 13-25, 18-25, 15-17. Hansen had five kills and two digs. Fellinger and Hynick each had four kills and five digs. Getting three kills apiece were Rylee Bauer and Tobiason. Holub had eight digs, and Allie Barnhart had five. Sperfslage had 11 assists and four digs. Evee Krouse had two digs.

     “We played a very tough Tipton team and competed well with them,” Peters said. “I am proud of the way the whole team played with a positive attitude throughout all of the games. Tipton hit very well, and the girls did everything they could to dig up the hits.”

 

Seventh-grade

     Monticello’s seventh-grade volleyball team won two out of three A matches in recent competiton.

     The Panthers played at Cascade Sept. 18. The A team lost 18-21, 12-21. Emma Porter served seven aces. Keziah McQuillen had four kills and two aces. Kendra Mescher had two kills, and Sami McElmeel had two assists.

     The B team won 15-9, 15-5 as Gabi Barnhart served eight aces. The C team split a pair of sets, 15-8 and 9-15. Recording ace serves were Taylor Gasman, Claire Hogan, Rylee Kraus and Kyrie Zimmerman.

     On Sept. 20, the Panthers played host to Tipton. The A team won 21-13, 21-17. McQuillen had three kills and four aces. Kinzi Schlarmann served three aces, and Raegan LaGrange served two. Barnhart had three kills, and Mescher had two. McElmeel had five assists, and Porter had two.

     The B team lost to Tipton 11-15, 12-15. Marissa Kehoe had two aces. In the C match, the Panthers lost 10-15, 11-15, 11-9. Gassman served four aces, while Brenna Wilson and Hogan served two each. Kraus had one kill.

     At home against Bellevue Sept. 25, the Panther A team won 21-19, 21-15. McQuillen served seven aces and had three kills. Mescher had three kills, while Porter and LaGrange had two each. Porter also had two assists. McElmeel had two assists and two aces. Schlarmann served two aces.

     The B team split, losing 9-15 and winning 15-2. Jordan Fangmann and Kehoe had four aces each. The Panthers swept four sets in the C match, with scores of 15-3, 17-15, 20-18, 9-6. Gassman had six aces, Lake Schnoor had four, Hogan had three; Alex McElmeel and Kraus had one apiece.
