JV Panthers win road games

GIRLS BASKETBALL RECAP

Junior varsity

     Monticello’s junior varsity team went on the road for a pair of lopsided girls basketball victories last week.

     The Panthers (8-1) handled Anamosa 38-19 Dec. 17, after taking a 27-5 halftime lead. Jaelyn Aitchison had 10 points, six steals and five rebounds, while Katie Roher had 10 points and four steals. Elise Kehoe scored seven points. Reagan Schneiter had four points. Brea Stahlberg had two points and six rebounds. Maddie Butterworth and Emma Hynick scored two points apiece, and Piper Hansen had one point and three rebounds.

     Aitchison scored 20 points and made four steals as the Panthers dispatched Tipton 33-13 Dec.20. Stahlberg had six points and five rebounds. Roher had five points and three steals. Butterworth had two points and seven rebounds.

     “In both games we got out to a good lead by halftime,” Monticello coach Chuck Welsch said. “It gave everyone a chance to play some good minutes.

     “We need to keep working on taking care of the ball and value it more, and finish our easy shots. We’ll be working hard at this over break.”

 

Fresh-soph team

     Monticello played a freshman-sophomore game Dec. 16 at home against Springville, and lost 34-22.

     Triniti Etzel led the Panthers in scoring with seven points. Emma Hynick had six points, while Mia Jaeger, Kayla Simmons, Savannah Freese and Bella Mullen had two points apiece. Lisa Dios added one point.

 

Seventh-grade team

     The Monticello seventh-grade girls basketball team closed out its season Dec. 16, hosting Camanche. The Red team was able to avenge an earlier loss at Camanche. The Panthers played their best game of the season and came away with a 31-24 win after losing 33-20 at Camanche. The Red team ended its season with a 6-5 record.

     The White team was defeated 11-2. The White team was unable to win a game this year.
