JV wraps up season

SOFTBALL

     Ten games closed the season for the Monticello junior varsity softball team, which went 4-5-1 in those games to finish with a season record of 8-8-1.

     The Panthers played a single game at Tipton June 8, and lost by a score of 8-1. Jordyn Patterson’s RBI single, bringing home Kacie Bayne, gave Monticello its only run. Tori McDonald batted 2-for-3.

     On June 14, the Panthers played host to Northeast of Goose Lake in a doubleheader, and won both games, by scores of 15-9 and 12-0, the latter in three innings. Megan James went 2-for-3 with a triple, a double and two RBIs. Rylee Bauer was 2-for-2. Going 2-for-3 were Beka Prull, DeLainy Fellinger and McDonald. Reese Cox pitched for the win.

     Cox pitched a no-hitter in the second game, striking out five and walking one in three innings. McDonald was 2-for-2 with a double. Scoring two runs each were Anisa Krouse, Patterson, McDonald, Prull, Cox and Fellinger.

     Monticello then played host to Iowa City Regina June 15, and lost 12-8. Fellinger was 2-for-4 with a double, and Patterson also went 2-for-4, and scored three runs. Cox had a double. James walked four times and scored three runs.

     Next, the Panthers played host to West Liberty June 19, and lost 2-0. Cox pitched a four-hitter with seven strikeouts, but took the loss. Hayley Manternach’s double and a single by Olivia Goodyear were the only Monticello hits.

     At Anamosa June 20, the Panthers lost 8-4 in a single game. James and Manternach both batted 2-for-3. Also getting hits for Monticello were McDonald, Cox, Fellinger, Patterson and Krouse.

     The Panthers then played host to Northeast in a doubleheader June 21, and won by scores of 14-1 in three innings, and 5-1. Cox pitched for the win in the first game, allowing three hits and striking out three. Cox also batted 3-for-3 with a double. McDonald, James and Prull also doubled for Monticello.

     Cox also won the second game, pitching a two-hitter with seven strikeouts. Patterson and Fellinger hit doubles for the Panthers.

     Monticello traveled to Durant June 22 for a single game, and lost 5-1. Goodyear batted 2-for-3, while Fellinger and Krouse hit singles.

     The Panthers then closed the season with a single game at Cascade, which ended in a 5-5 tie. Manternach was 2-for-2 at the plate, and Goodyear went 2-for-3.
