JV wraps up season at 4-4

     The Monticello junior varsity volleyball team split its final two matches of the season to end with a 4-4 overall record.

     The Panthers traveled to Mid-Prairie Oct. 8 and won 25-11, 25-11. Emma Porter had 17 assists and three digs. Piper Hansen had six kills and four digs. Jaelyn Aitchison had five kills, and Lacie Koppes had four. Jordan Fangmann served 16-for-17 with seven aces, and had four digs. Emma Sperfslage had five digs, and Kendra Mescher had four.

     “Our offense and aggressive attack serving helped us pull away,” Monticello coach Kylie Nagel said.

     Monticello ended the season Oct. 13 with a trip to Anamosa, and lost in three sets, 22-25, 25-22, 7-15. Porter had 13 assists, 10 digs and served 10-for-11. Mescher had seven kills. Fangmann had 13 digs. Koppes had two kills, three aces and served 12-for-13. Aitchison had four kills and 17 digs. Hansen had eight digs, and served 12-for-12 with two aces.

     “The players excelled at our goals,” Nagel said, summing up the season. “We served over 90 percent, passed well in serve-receive, and ran a quick, powerful offense. The team excelled practicing against the fast pace of the varsity offense daily. Serving aggressively at the varisty during practice also made us more aggressive servers.”
