Kathleen Tjaden Dec. 17, 1925-Feb. 16, 2017

     Kathleen Tjaden, age 91, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017 at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, following an extended illness.

     Funeral Services will be held 10:30 Monday morning, Feb. 20, 2017 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello. Friends may call from 4 until 7 Sunday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello where a parish Vigil Service will be held at 4. Visitation will resume at 9:30 Monday at the church until service time.      Surviving are four children, Leo (Sue) Tjaden, Patty (Tom) Lee, Ron (Dee) Tjaden, Jim (Sheila) Tjaden all of Monticello; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty (Jerry) Naylor, Scotch Grove, Martina (Phil) Reilly, Topeka, Kan. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard, a sister, Margaret Murphy, two brothers, Leo and Dennis McDonald.

     Kathleen McDonald was born Dec. 17, 1925 in Boulder Township, Linn County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Martin and Marie Donovan, McDonald. She graduated from the Coggon Schools in 1943. Kathleen McDonald and Richard Tjaden were married, Aug. 21, 1944 at S.S. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church Parsonage. The couple farmed in Castle Grove Township and later near Prairieburg. In November 2004 they moved to Monticello. Richard preceded her in death Dec. 10, 2005. 

     Kathleen loved to go dancing, play cards with neighbors and friends, and travel with her sisters. She always thought of everyone else first before herself.

     The family would like to thank the staff at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for all the wonderful care of our mother the past six years.
