Monticello sophomore Dru Kramer shot a 91 to finish in sixth place, earning a trip to state competition, during the Class 3A Regional Girls Golf Finals Monday, May 20 at Wahkonsa in Durant.

As a team, the Panthers finished in fourth place with a team score of 399. The top two teams, Tipton (350) and Williamsburg (373) advanced to state competition. Wilton was third with 387.

“It was going to take our best effort and a lot of help, to beat the teams ahead of us,” Monticello coach Joe Steen said. “I guess I was really proud that we made it to the regional final. These kids have worked hard.”

Kramer said she was able to make most parts of her game work for her despite wet, cold conditions.

“It was a tough day, but it was the same for everyone,” Kramer said. “I only missed about two fairways, and my iron shots were really good. I was a little nervous; I didn’t think my score was going to be good enough.”

“Dru improved a little on the back nine, and was able to slip into that sixth spot,” Steen said. “Today was a good day for her.”

Beka Prull shot a 95, Lydia Franzenburg had 103, Marissa McNally had a 110, Lilly Lambert shot 115, and Karli Recker totaled 120.

As a team, Steen said the team finished 37-6 counting tournament opponents. The Panthers won the regional first round tournament, and the Easton Valley Invitational, and finished second at the Wilton/Durant Invitational.

In all, the Panthers have reached the regional finals in seven of the past nine years, Steen said.

“We’ve had a pretty good run the last several years,” he said. “We just have to keep building on it.”

Kramer will compete in the State Class 3A Girls Golf Tournament Tuesday and Wednesday, May 28-29 at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny.
