The annual Dyersville White Hawks baseball tournament will once again hold a queen pageant with a young female representing each team. This year, representing the Monticello Cubs will be Monticello High School graduate, Rileigh Lambert.

Lambert said she was surprised when she was asked to run by the Cubs manager, Garrett Hanken.

“He said it would be really fun and I would meet a lot of people so I was like why not.”

Lambert has also attended many of the Cubs baseball games to cheer on her boyfriend, Mason Newhard, who plays on the team.

Sixteen girls, including Lambert, will be competing for the crown this year. Each girl is individually chosen by the manager of the semi- pro baseball teams.

This past week, the candidates were invited to go to a supper with their mothers. During that time, each of the girls took turns going in for an interview that lasted about ten minutes, with three judges.

“I got to meet a bunch of people from the Dyersville and Dubuque area that I wouldn’t of if I didn’t run so it was fun. It was kind of fun dressing up again too,” Lambert added.

The ceremony will be held on Aug. 3 at Commercial Club baseball field in Dyersville between the first and second game.

The young lady who is crowned queen will have the responsibilities of handing out awards to the winners of the championship game on Aug. 4 and she will return next year to hand off her crown to the next queen.

While in high school, Lambert was involved in volleyball, basketball, track, group & individual WoHeLo in Camp Fire, was named a D.A.R.E. Role model, and participated in National Honor Society and National Council on Youth Leadership.

Her future plans include attending St. Ambrose with a double major in special education and elementary education, with a goal of earning her master’s degree in speech pathology.

Lambert is the daughter of Todd and Cheyanna Lambert of Monticello.
