Larry Lee Hunt

Larry Lee Hunt was born in Monticello, Iowa on Sept. 14, 1947 to Robert and Kathleen (Oswald) Hunt. He graduated from Maquoketa Valley in 1966. He served in the army from 1966-68 stationed in Alvarado, Texas on the Nike Hercules Missile Base. During his time there he attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where he met his future bride and best friend, Karen Gebhard. Larry and Karen were married April 12, 1969. They built their dream home in 1973 and he created an outdoor gardener’s paradise. He loved his yard and caring for it. Larry shared his gardening knowledge with anyone who was interested and many have said he had a

green arm not a green thumb. He started working for General Service Administration in 1968. He retired from GSA in 2003 as the Deputy of Operations Branch Chief and was the supervisor of 16 other managers.

Larry and Karen enjoyed time together traveling, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends. They attended Mass at St. Ann’s Catholic Church where Larry served as usher until the end of 2019. The highlight of their 50th year was being on a panel on the Steve Harvey show to discuss “Marriage Real Talk”

Larry and Karen “chose” their daughter, Courtney, in 1977. Courtney was able to give him the “loves of his life”, his three granddaughters Tia, Kendall, and Caroline. He adored his title of “Papa” since 2006.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, Robert Hunt, sister, Jean Ann Holub, and great-niece, Emma Padgett.

Larry is survived by his wife of 51 years, Karen, his mother, Kathleen Hunt, his brother Bill (Marie) Hunt, brother-in-law Bud Holub, his daughter Courtney and her three children, Tia, Kendall and Caroline, and his nieces and nephew: Julie (Todd), Marsha (Jon), JoEllen(Josh), Teresa, Erica(Tyler), Zaneta (David), David(Ashley), and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
