LETTER: Food pantry support needed during federal government shutdown
To the editor,
On October 17, 2025, lowa HHS sent out a news release alerting lowans who use SNAP benefits that there was a possibility that November benefits would not be issued. The newsletter stated, “Iowa HHS has engaged our food bank and pantry partners and community-based organizations to prepare additional support to impacted lowans”.
The Monticello Ministerial Association (MMA) Food Pantry, a collaboration of area churches and members, is carefully monitoring the situation and is working with our partner agencies to make sure that we can support those who might have additional food needs during this time. The Food Pantry is only possible through the continued generous support of this community through monetary and food donations. The Food Pantry recipients are always extremely appreciative. We ask for your continued generosity. If you are able, please give to help your neighbors in need.
You may drop off food Mondays 4:30-7:00 p.m. and Thursdays 1:30-4:00 p.m.
Financial gifts can be mailed to MMA, PO Box 62, Monticello, lowa 52310
Thank you.
