Letter: Time to sign up to volunteer for or receive community Thanksgiving meal

To the editor,

Can you feel it? See it? Smell it? Taste it? There is no mistaking, Fall is here! The cool mornings, the changing color of the leaves, the sweet smell of corn being harvested and pumpkin everything. The perfect time of year when we say goodbye to the heat and humidity of Summer and as we begin to brace for the unpredictable, but inevitable, cold and snow of Winter. It is also the time for one of my favorite holidays … Thanksgiving. Where we make the time to gather with family and friends to fellowship together and celebrate the end of the harvest.

It is also time to begin our planning for the Monticello Thanksgiving Community Dinner. We will be needing your help to plan, prepare and serve free meals to our friends and neighbors, in Monticello.

If you would like to help with baking a turkey, delivering meals, working in the kitchen, washing dishes, setting up or tearing down, putting meals together or serving in other ways, please call us at (319) 465-3219, leave a message and your phone number, and we will call you back.

If you are wanting to have a meal delivered or if you know of someone who would like to have a meal delivered (in Monticello) or if you want to pick up a meal at the Berndes Center on Thanksgiving Day, please call (319) 465-3219, leave a message and your phone number, and we will call you back.

If you would like to donate some money to help offset some of the costs, you may do so by dropping donations off at Citizens State Bank in Monticello or sending donations to us. Checks need to be made out to Terry Feuling c/o TCD and can be mailed to 15736 120th Ave., Scotch Grove, IA 52310.

We look forward to working with all of you to make this year’s meal a great success. If you have any questions please give us a call at (319) 465-3219, leave us a message and your phone number, and we will call you back.
