Library program

Architect and historic preservationist Michael LeClere spoke at the Monticello Public Library on July 27. LeClere works for Martin Gardner Architecture in Marion. She shared images and ideas for how cities like Monticello could not only preserve local history in its downtown buildings and structures, like Ely’s Stone Bridge, but how that preservation could also spruce up and add to the town’s image and attractiveness to outsiders. He said it takes groups coming together, business owners willing to think outside the box, and collaborating with the city and chamber to make ideas realities. Where Stone Bridge is concerned, LeClere said it’s important to work with the local historical society in not only preserving the bridge, but attracting people to it. (Photo by Kim Brooks)
