Locals win Iowa State Fair contests

     Two Monticello residents received high honors for their submissions to the Iowa State Fair.

     Lauren Koehler won first place in the in the Junior Class/Additional Class in the Doll Houses and Miniature Rooms/Scenes competition. This allows skilled artists to being their talent to create small works of art.

     Sarah Hovey won second place in the Photography Adult Division – Color category and People class. Photographers from around the country crafted their best images to submit.

     This year’s theme for the photography submissions was “Shadows.” Photographers were given guidelines to create images where there is great contrast between the light and the shadow. The goal was to observe and watch the world and see how the light develops shadows.

     Hovey submitted a photo of her husband and youngest son washing their hands at the kitchen sick.
