Luella E. Gardner Feb. 12, 1937 – Nov. 30, 2016

      Luella E. Gardner, 76, Davenport, formerly of Monticello, died peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on Christmas night. Private funeral services were held on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016 at the Cunnick-Collins Mortuary Chapel in Davenport. Burial was in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. There was no public visitation.

      Luella Eliese Ricklefs was born in Monticello, the daughter of Herman and Sophie (Moenk) Ricklefs. Following her graduation from Monticello High School she furthered her education graduating from AIC. In August of 1960, she married David F. Gardner at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Davenport. He preceded her in death in March of 2004. In 1979, along with her husband, she started Gardner Engineering in Davenport where she served as Vice President and Comptroller until recent health issues forced her retirement. She was a long time member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Davenport, the Quad City Antique Ford Car Club and the Bix Society. In earlier years she was active in 4-H and also loved to play cards. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and most especially spending time with her “best friend” Dixie.

      Surviving members of the family include – her daughter: Eliese (Larry) Cockayne of Davenport; 2 sons: Steven (Sherri) Gardner of Walcott and Mark (Pam Tillman) Gardner also of Davenport; a sister Elaine Halsch of Cedar Rapids; and a brother Vernon (Sandy) Ricklefs of Center Junction; 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

      She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Dave.
