Marquette blanks MHS

BOYS SOCCER

Bellevue Marquette’s defense held Monticello off the scoreboard in a 4-0 win Friday, May 11 in Bellevue.

Monticello (3-7) trailed 1-0 at halftime, and Marquette added three more goals in the second half.

“We were able to move the ball into the final third (of the field), but couldn’t score,” Monticello coach Phil Gilkerson said. “I was happy with the way the team moved the ball, and that allowed us to create a number of chances to score.”

The Panthers had three shots on goal, by Jacob Fokken, Gavin Holub and Kurt Stadtmueller. Goalkeeper Noel Halder made 17 saves.
