Martens finishes third in State high jump event

Boys track

     Midland senior Alex Martens closed out his high school boys track and field career with a third place finish in the high jump at the State Class 1A Boys Track and Field Meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

     Competing in the high jump on Friday, May 19, Martens cleared 6-foot-4 to finish third.

     Landon Hunter ran in the 400-meter hurdles for Midland, also on Friday, and finished 12th with a time of 57.45 seconds.

 

Girls track

     Midland had nine entries compete in the State Class 1A Girls Track and Field Meet Thursday through Saturday, May 18-20 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

     A rundown of the Eagles’ finishes:

     • Libertie Uppena finished ninth in the shot put with a top throw of 36-10.5. On Friday, Uppena finished 16th in the discus with a distance of 105-11.

     • Jaelynn Folkers ran 12th in the 3,000 on Thursday, in a time of 11:18.63. On Saturday, she ran 17th in the 1,500 with a time of 5:09.72.

     • Midland had two runners in the 400-meter dash finals on Thursday. Emma Dusanek finished 15th in 1:02.78, and Drew Jensen came in 17th in 1:03.30.

     • The Eagles’ 4x400 team finished 19th in 4:22.71 with the team of Emma Dusanek, Taylor Bahnsen, Kayla Folkers and Drew Jensen.

 

Boys golf

     Midland shot 408 and finished 11th as a team at the Class 1A District Boys Golf Meet Thursday, May 18 at Pleasant Valley in Iowa City.

     “It was a pretty tough course, and real tough competition,” Midland coach Kirk Park said.

     Carson Rupp had the highest individual finish for the Eagles, taking 39th place with a score of 97. Connor Harms carded a 100, Carter Mohr shot 101, Ethan Orr had 110, Peyton Rupp totaled 112 and Sebastian Kreel had 115.

     The event ended Midland’s season.
