McKean announces re-election bid

State Representative Andy McKean announced that he would be seeking a second term as state representative for Iowa’s 58th District. The 58th District includes all of Jackson County, most of Jones County, and two townships in Dubuque County including the City of Cascade.

In making his announcement, McKean emphasized that he has tried to steer an independent course in the Iowa Legislature.

“My first responsibility is to the people I represent and I have tried my best to work with both Republicans and Democrats in developing solutions to the serious problems that Iowa is facing,” said McKean. “I am pleased that we have seen some positive legislation in the areas of water quality, mental health, and opioid addiction and am hopeful that the final tax reform package will reduce rates, simplify our tax system, and eliminate loopholes whole providing sufficient revenue to provide the services Iowans need and expect.”

The part of being a legislator that McKean enjoys the most is helping people on a one-to-one basis cut through bureaucratic red tape. “Whatever it is encouraging the DOT to work with a landowner to save trees on a road project, convincing a utility to cooperate with facilitating the development of a new business on Maquoketa’s Main Street, or pushing a state board to promulgate regulations to pave the way for a tele-pharmacy in Wyoming, I’m pleased to be available to lend a helping hand.”

McKean expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to serve the residents of the 58th District. “It has been a privilege to represent you and I will do my best to be deserving of your continued support.”
