McKean does what is right for his constituents, not the party

To the Editor,
According to Webster's Dictionary the definition of courage is “mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty.” Courageous people say and do the right thing even in the face of hostility, opposition and change. They hold true to their beliefs and principles in ever changing landscapes.
To me, these traits perfectly describe Andy McKean. While I haven't always agreed with him on all issues, I have always admired Andy's character, dedication, and sincere belief in doing what is best for his constituents and not the party he is a member of.
Many have maligned Andy for changing political parties, but that decision is truly characteristic of a person with courage. Knowing the backlash he might receive from people, Andy did what he felt was right.
This is the type of representative I want in the legislature. One who does the work and bases his decisions on what is right for his constituents, not a party. One who is concerned with moving the state forward and not back. One who sees public education as a bedrock of Iowa culture. One who respects the differences in people that create the unique fabric of life in Iowa. One who puts people over party!
I strongly encourage you to vote for Andy McKean for the Iowa House.
