The combined positive COVID cases and those cases the Monticello Community School District is monitoring show that around 2 percent of the K-12 population (students and staff) are currently out for COVID-related reasons.

On Thursday, Oct. 28, Superintendent Brian Jaeger shared his weekly update. At that time, there were nine positive cases reported. This is an increase of three cases from the week before. There were also 18 cases the district was monitoring (those in quarantine, those waiting for COVID test results, and those with COVID-like symptoms).

“The number of staff and students we are monitoring has stayed the same this week,” said Jaeger.

The seven-day positivity rate for Jones County, as of Thursday, per the Iowa Department of Public Health, (IDPH) was at 10 percent, down 3 percent from the prior week. It also showed 44 cases in Jones County over that seven-day period, which is down 11 cases from the week before.

“Looking at the chart of COVID cases on the IDPH website, it looks like cases are continuing to trend down at this time,” added Jaeger of his observations.
