MFD seeks community’s help with can/bottle donations

To the Editor,

     The Monticello Fire Department is very appreciative of the generosity of our community. The cans and bottles that have been donated have funded the Fourth of July fireworks for over the last decade.

     While we spend countless hours sorting cans and bottles, it has been accomplished by our volunteer firefighters and their families.

     We would like to ask the community to keep this in mind when dropping off your cans and bottles. Garbage and recyclables have inundated the mission of receiving these products. Diapers, cigarette butts, diabetic needles, and other harmful items are being found too often.

     For the safety and health of our department, please use consideration when dropping items off. Also, help us by keeping the area looking nice by not leaving items outside the can/bottle enclosure.
