MHS to honor Veterans Day, Nov. 11

Monticello High School is hosting activities for Veterans Day on Thursday, Nov. 11.

From 7 to 8 a.m., the Foods classes will be preparing and serving a breakfast for all veterans. This will be held in the Family and Consumer Science Room.

Students will be dismissed to the auditorium at 8 a.m. for a presentation and a movie. The “National Anthem” will be performed by MHS students. Iraq War veteran Doug Kramer, father of senior Karle Kramer, will speak about his return home from the service and seeing Karle for the first time after she was born.

The movie “Taking Chance” will be shown at around 8:20 a.m. Any veteran who wants to watch the movie can do so. There will be reserved seating in the back of the auditorium.

Students will return to class by 10 a.m., following the movie.

Later in the day, during the students’ WIN time, they will write letters to the editor to be submitted to newspapers of communities that have had an Iowa service member killed in Afghanistan and Iraq, thanking those communities and families for their sacrifice.
