Staff report

Monticello High School came in 41st out of 344 Iowa high schools in a ranking released by U.S. News and World Report.

The rankings are based on their performance on state-required tests, graduation and how well they prepare students for college.

MHS tested at 95 percent proficiency in mathematics and 94 percent in reading. It recorded a graduation rate of 98 percent.

“I think this is a good benchmark for the success that we’ve shown over the past couple of years,” Superintendent Brian Jaeger said in a video released May 1. “In future years we will continue to try and move forward and continue to increase our ranking to be even better.”

The school ranked 5,568 nationally. U.S. News and World Report ranks more than 24,000 high schools throughout 50 states and the District of Columbia.
