     Three events, three trophies.

The Monticello High School dance team earned three runner-up finishes, placing in all three of its events, during the Iowa State Dance Team Association (ISDTA) Championships Nov. 29 at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines.

Monticello competed in Class 1 Contemporary, Class 4 Jazz, and Class 8 Pom during the event.

That wasn’t all: the Panthers also received a team academic award for having a cumulative grade-point average above 3.5. And the dancers also picked up a Community Service Award for volunteering their time at the Jones County Relay for Life this past summer.

“I am very proud of these Panther dancers,” Monticello coach Amanda Hackney said, “not only for their dance talent, but for their desire to do well in school and to give back to our community.”

Results from Monticello’s three classes follow.

Class 1 Contemporary: 1, Panorama; 2, Monticello; 3, St. Albert, Council Bluffs.

     Class 4 Jazz: 1, Clear Lake; 2, Monticello; 3, Davenport Assumption; 4, Vinton-Shellsburg; 5, Mid-Prairie.

     Class 8 Pom: 1, Waterloo Columbus; 2, Monticello; 3, Mid-Prairie; 4, Louisa-Muscatine; 5, Estherville Lincoln.
