FFA WEEK

Throughout 2019 and 2020, The Midland FFA Chapter has had excellent involvement in state and local contests, community service and fundraising activities, and member events.

The chapter has participated and celebrated success in numerous career development events held throughout the year. The poultry judging team placed third overall, and Sawyer Hansen placed as the top individual. The biotechnology team placed 3rd overall. Brett Schoenherr competed at the state convention in the job interview contest and took first place which advanced him to Nationals. Brett competed in Indianapolis, Ind. at the National FFA Convention and placed 11th in the nation, receiving a gold rating.

Fourteen additional students from the chapter attended the National FFA Convention. While at the convention, the group went on tours, attended the career expo, and bonded as a chapter.

After arriving home, the students took an industry tour at Kendricks Forest Products, Silveredge Cooperative, and the Edgewood Locker.

The Midland FFA Chapter also held its annual fruit and wreath sales. They sold 120 wreaths with the help of local community members. Students also participated in community service projects such as “We Care” packages and held a canned food drive. Both project donations helped the Lost Nation, Oxford Junction, and Wyoming communities.

This year, the chapter has five seniors approved to get their Iowa degrees in April at the State Leadership Conference held in Ames. Seniors include Kristina Agnitsch, Taylor Bahnsen, Sawyer Hansen, Shianne Rockwell, and Kirstin Schaefer. We – the advisors, alumni, and students – are proud of all the hard work that they have put into the FFA chapter over the last four years and look forward to their alumni involvement.

FFA week is February 22-29. The chapter has a variety of activities planned to engage FFA members and promote the FFA program and agriculture in our school and community. Activities planned include: bowling night, drive your tractor to school, dress up days, and an assembly to end the week.

With only four months left in the school year, we look forward to many things. The Midland FFA Chapter will have 21 members competing in contests, many members attending the State

Leadership Conference in April, and the chapter will end the year with the annual banquet held April 2 at the high school.

It has been a year of growth, success, and learning for all involved. Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers and alumni that make our chapter strong, our community businesses and partners who support the chapter in a variety of ways, and our students who continue to excel and put in the time and effort to better their chapter, community, and their own personal growth. It takes a village and the Midland FFA Chapter’s village is strong and mighty.
