Midland plays a six-game stretch

Baseball

   Midland baseball went 1-5 in recent games, giving it records of 6-15 overall, 3-6 in the Tri-Rivers conference.

   On June 16, the Eagles lost both games of a doubleheader at Calamus-Wheatland, both games ended with a 10-0 score. In game one, a five inning game, Jamisen Dodge and Zain Sauer had the only hits for the Eagles. In game two the Eagles were unable to record a hit.

   On June 20, the Eagles won a home game against Central City 12-2 in five innings. The Eagles used a four run third inning and a five run fourth inning to get out to an 11-2 lead after four innings. Anthony Harrington pitched the first four innings and struck out four batters. Kael Cress pitched the last inning in just seven pitches. Kaleb Westphal had two hits, a double, three RBIs and scored once. Etten also had two hits this game. Other players with multiple RBIs were Zain Sauer, Warren Etten and Ty Jensen, who each had two.

   On June 21, the Eagles lost 6-2 at Lisbon. Etten pitched the complete game for the Eagles. Zain Sauer had three hits and scored once in the game. Harrington drove in both runs for the Eagles.

   Next, the Eagles played at Easton Valley June 23, and lost by scores of 10-6 and 5-4. In the first game, the River Hawks rallied from an early 6-1 deficit to win. For Midland, Westphal batted 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. Zain Sauer was 2-for-4, also with a double and two RBIs.

   In the second game, Easton Valley scored three times in the sixth inning to erase a 4-2 Midland lead. Zain Sauer was 3-for-3 with a double. Westphal went 2-for-3. Zain Sauer pitched the first 5.2 innings and took the loss.

  

Softball

   Midland had three softball games last week, and went 0-3 to come away with records of 3-7 in the Tri-Rivers Conference, 7-24 overall.

   The Eagles lost both games of a home doubleheader against Central City on June 20. In game one the final score was 9-2. Sophia Raubs pitched 5.1 innings and then Anna Bartels pitched the last 1.2 innings. Allison Paulsen had the only hits for the Eagles, two doubles, and had the only RBI.

   In game two the Eagles lost 12-2 in five innings. Bartels pitched the complete game. Raubs had a triple and scored. Bartels had the only other hit for the Eagles, a single and scored.

   Midland had a single game at home against Maquoketa June 24, and lost 7-3. The Eagles had three hits, including doubles by Harrington and Ricketts. Bartels batted 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Ricketts had two stolen bases. Bartels pitched and took the loss.
