Monti finishes fourth at Tipton Early Bird meet

   Moving into the outdoor season, the Monticello girls track and field team posted a fourth-place finish in the 14-team Tipton Early Bird Co-Ed on March 31 at the Tipton City Park.

   “I thought we had some outstanding efforts for our first outdoor meet,” Panther coach Vallerie Lynn said. “I was very pleased with the efforts all-around. We are also beginning to find the relay chemistry among the girls.”

   Mary Grace Lyons led the Panther finishes, taking first in the 1,500-meter run in 4:51.81. The distance medley team of Ava Zimmerman, Laila Atkinson, Peyton Ries and Lyons ran to a second-place finish (4:28.11). Ries, Lindsay Ruchti, Mallory McElmeel and Brynn Schmit teamed up for third in the 4x400 (4:28.78), as did Zimmerman, Atkinson, McElmeel and Kenya Davis-Robinson in the 4x200 (1:53.19).

   “The 4x800 girls had another big win, the distance medley ran a season best and the 4x100 and 4x200 both had nice times for the first outdoor meet,” Lynn added.
