Monti JV remains undefeated

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Monticello held two opponents to 30 points or fewer in a pair of River Valley Conference junior varsity girls basketball games last week, keeping the Panthers undefeated.

The Panthers played host to Camanche Jan. 16 and won 64-35, as Gabrielle Guilford led the way with 19 points. Gabrielle Steiner scored 13, Marissa Recker, DeLainy Fellinger and Tori McDonald had eight points each; Emily Schlarmann and Beka Prull had four points apiece in the win.

“Balanced scoring, sharing the ball and getting points off turnovers were the three keys to a perfect game,” Monticello coach Chuck Welsch said.

On Jan. 19, the Panthers traveled to Mid-Prairie and scored a 40-30 victory. Monticello led 24-12 at halftime.

“The girls played a solid first half, but then had a letdown in the second half,” Welsch said. “We need to play hard every time out, and play a complete game. That’s what good teams do.”

Steiner scored 11 points, Schlarmann and Guilford added 10 each for the Panthers. Prull totaled five points, while Recker and Fellinger had two each.

The Panthers are 15-0, including 12-0 against River Valley opponents.
