Kicking off the season with the River Valley Conference Indoor Meet on March 24 at the University of Dubuque’s Chlapaty Rec. Center, the Monticello boys track and field team took seventh in the 16-team event.

The Panthers doubled up in the shot put, as Carter Holub threw 49-2 to finish second, and Lincoln Schneiter threw 44-6 to finish sixth.

In running events, Aedan Althoff finished fourth (4:56) in the 1,600-meter run, as did the 4x800 team of Mace Schnoor, Bryce McDonald, Nicholas Schrader and Trenton Seeman (8:57).

Emmit Rickels (8.45) and Dominic Culpepper (8.54) finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 55-hurdles and Isaac Kray, Grant Gassman, Schrader and Jack Jesenovec teamed up for sixth in the 4x400 (3:43).

Jesenovec was eighth in the 400 (56.30), as was Alan Arriaga-Rangel in the 1,600 (5:12) and Mac Burkle in the high jump (5-8).

“Our team is doing a good job with the little things that we need to do to be the best we can later in the season,” Panther coach Greg Williams said. “Mac tied last year’s season best with his effort in the high jump and Eli (Santa) has improved with each race he’s competed in.”
