Monticello Farmers Market

Spring is here!  The Monticello Farmers Market will open the season on Saturday May 12 at 8 a.m. and close at 11 a.m. The market will be held at Willow Shelter, next to Pizza Ranch.

The following day is Mother’s Day. Come by the market to get the special Moms in your life a special gift. We all have several Moms – Mom, Mom #2, Stepmom, Grandmas, Daycare Mom, Work Mom, Team Mom, Sister, Daughter and Friend.

This year the Monticello Farmers Market will have gift certificates available all season, perfect for Mother’s Day or a birthday or as a thank you.

Since it is the beginning of a new market season here are some shopping tips:

  1. Dress appropriately for the weather. Farmers Markets are open rain or shine, so dress accordingly. Willow Shelter is known as a “wind tunnel”. Early in the season it can be breezy and a bit cooler than it is outside. And in the heat of the summer it is very comfortable under the roof.
  2. Bring your own reusable shopping bag or basket, it’s environmentally friendly.
  3. Walk around the whole market. You may think you only want a dozen eggs but take a look around the entire market and see what is available. Maybe you will find a new favorite cookie or a piece of jewelry. Ask the vendors questions. Vendors love to share their story!
  4. Try something new. The Farmers Market is the perfect place to get educated about food. Choose a new to you vegetable and ask the farmer “What is your favorite way to eat this?”
  5. Bring a cooler. Just in case you aren’t going home right away. Keep your eggs cool and your salad crisp.
  6. Bring cash. Most vendors do a cash-only business; do them a favor and bring small bills and coins. Try to avoid twenty-dollar bills esp. if you are only purchasing a few dollars worth of goods. Some vendors do accept debit and credit cards.

Pete Temple will be joining us on opening day. Come by and grab a coffee and a treat and enjoy some music.

See you at the market!
