Monticello Sports offers Panther facemasks

The sale of the MV masks ended on July 30, with over 100 sold. Monticello Sports is selling the masks noting that local schools are requiring them for the school year.

     With some school districts in the area now requiring face coverings for all students and staff when the 2020-21 school year begins, Monticello Sports decided to offer their expertise in school apparel.

     Kevin Hansen with Monticello Sports got to work after hearing that both Maquoketa Valley and Monticello schools were mandating masks at the start of the school year. Within no time, masks featuring both schools’ logos were available for purchase online.

     Hansen said Monticello Sports heard from multiple apparel vendors about the possibility of selling custom facemasks.

     “We chose the vendor we did because they were offering a pretty good turnaround time and they’ve always done quality work,” praised Hansen.

     Homemade facemasks come in all shapes, sizes, designs and material. The masks sold through Monticello Sports allow kids and adults to show off their school spirit just like they would wearing a t-shirt, sweatshirt, or baseball cap. Hansen said it’s an alternative to a plain facemask.

     In addition, both the Monticello and Maquoketa Valley booster clubs receive $2 for every mask sold.

     “We thought this would be a good fundraiser for our booster clubs, as they have been unable to have concession stands at sporting events,” explained Hansen.

     While the MV online store closed on July 30, 125 masks were sold. As of Thursday morning, July 30, 39 Monticello masks were sold. You have until Sunday, Aug. 9 to purchase a Monticello Panther mask.

     “Now that the masks are mandatory, we anticipate the sales to increase,” said Hansen. “We may re-open the web stores throughout the school year if there is enough interest.”

     The masks are made with a pocket to insert a filter (not included). They are washable and reusable.

     Any school district or business can purchase custom-design masks from Monticello Sports, with a minimum order of 48. These can be a combination of youth and adult size masks.

     “If you give us the artwork, we can mock up a design for you,” offered Hansen.
