The Maquoketa Valley FFA Chapter has had a highly successful year so far. The MV FFA Chapter has participated in events such as livestock judging, World Dairy Expo, National FFA Convention and various FFA Contests.

Our Chapter received a sixth place award in Dairy Judging at the National FFA Convention this past fall, where all of our team placed within the top 33 of all contestants. The Maquoketa Valley FFA Chapter has also participated in community events such as the Iowa Rural Health Association, where we spoke about agricultultural advocates such as Temple Grandin.

The chapter has also begun restructuring and recreating some facets of our program such as updating the shop, greenhouse and various facilities. Upon restructuring our program, the Maquoketa Valley FFA Chapter has recently appointed a new advisor, Mr. Jeff Edwards.  Mr. Edwards is a recent graduate of Iowa State University, graduating in December of 2019 and majoring in Agricultural Education & Life Sciences.  Mr. Edwards previously student taught at Western Dubuque High School in Epworth, where he taught a large variety of agricultural courses.

Upcoming events that the MV FFA Chapter will be participating in include Sub-District FFA Contests, where we will be competing in contests such as job interviews, public speaking, individual agricultural sales; and many others.

We will also be participating in National FFA Week, where we will be hosting events such as a community food drive, “Agricultural Olympics” for the high school and fun activities such as handing out doughnuts to the school. The Maquoketa Valley FFA Chapter has also established a date for the Maquoketa Valley FFA Banquet, which will be held March 17. Future plans for the Chapter also include taking a trip to Ames to participate in the Iowa FFA State Leadership Conference. At this conference, we will also be having students participate in events such as Farm Business Management and various livestock judging events.

The future of the Maquoketa Valley FFA Program is bright and the students, school and community are very excited to see where it will go.
