MV, McShane pull away from North Cedar

   Lance McShane rushed for 201 yards and six touchdowns on 21 carries as Maquoketa Valley opened its football season with  a 46-6 romp over North Cedar Aug. 26 in Delhi.

   Maquoketa Valley (1-0) took a 22-6 halftime lead, then broke the game open with 24 unanswered third quarter points.

   McShane also led the team in tackles with 10. Aidan Salow had 9.5 stops, Nathan Beitz had 6.5 and Dylan Knipper had six. Anderson Holtz and Lucas Orcutt recovered North Cedar fumbles.

   Quarterback T.J. Cook passed for 42 yards and rushed for 37. Taten Intorf had 34 rushing yards with one touchdown. Devin Meeks scored twice on two-point conversions.



   Maquoketa Valley traveled to Jesup to open its volleyball season with a triangular meet. The Wildcats lost to Jesup by scores of 22-25, 20-25; and defeated Clayton Ridge 26-24, 25-16.

   In the Jesup match, the Wildcats (1-1) had 34 digs, led by Lili Bauers with 10, Bianka Ronnebaum with seven, Keira Leytem and Grace Richter with five apiece. Leytem made five assists. Richter had three kills. Leah Reicher had two blocks. Richter served 9-for-9 with three aces. Kennedy Rausch and Bianka Ronnebaum had two aces apiece.

   Against Clayton Ridge, MV had 21 kills. Haley Ronnebaum had seven of those, Richter had six and Bianka Ronnebaum had four. Leytem made 19 assists. Bauers had 14 digs; Bianka Ronnebaum and Richter had nine apiece.
