MV is second at Cascade (Anamosa)

MAQUOKETA VALLEY RECAP

Cross country

     Maquoketa Valley finished second in a 10-team boys’ field at the Cascade Invitational Cross Country Meet Sept. 19. The meet, originally scheduled to be at Fillmore Fairways, was moved to Anamosa Middle School because of course conditions.

     Cy Huber finished sixth overall, fifth in team scoring, with a time of 17 minutes, 55 seconds. Other Wildcat placings for team scoring included Chance Downs, eighth in 18:12; Nolan Ries, ninth in 18:16; Michael Schaul, 10th in 18:21; Mason Lubben, 18th in 18:44; Derek Mensen, 21st in 18:55; and Brock Trenkamp, 49th in 20:35.

     The Wildcat girls finished seventh in their race, with a score of 173. Leading MV was Emma Doyl, 19th with a time of 22:57. Jaiden Porer was 21st in 23:00, Kriya Atwell 33rd in 24:23; Reece Mensen 49th in 29:11; and Jordan Hogan 51st in 29:40.

 

Football

     Maquoketa Valley led most of the way, but fell behind in the fourth quarter and wound up losing to Monticello 21-14 on Friday, Sept. 20 in Delhi.

Volleyball

     The Wildcats (0-1, 3-7) opened their Tri-Rivers Conference slate at Cedar Valley Christian Sept. 19, and lost in three sets, 13-25, 19-25, 21-25. Taya Tucker had 10 kills for MV, and Lydia Helle had eight. Carissa Sabers put up 16 assists. The team had 52 digs, led by Ella Imler with 14 and Shelby March with 10. Imler also served 8-for-8.

     Maquoketa Valley then entered the West Delaware Tournament Sept. 21, and lost three matches in pool play. The first of those was a 13-21, 16-21 decision against Vinton-Shellsburg. Sabers had 10 assists, as Tucker had seven kills and Helle had five. Imler had 15 digs.

     Against Independence, the Wildcats lost 16-21, 12-21, collecting only six kills as a team. Imler had 11 digs, and Beaman had 10. Kylie Chesnut and Krista Ries had two blocks apiece.

     MV then took Edgewood-Colesburg to a third set before losing 17-21, 21-15, 12-15. Tucker had 11 kills in that match, and Sabers had 14 assists. Imler had 25 of the team’s 73 digs, and Sabers had 14. Getting two blocks apiece were Chesnut and Tucker.
