'Natural High' 5K to benefit Coalition

RUNNING

The Jones County Safe and Healthy Youth Coalition is hosting its second annual What’s Your Natural High 5K run/walk on Saturday, April 27 at Wapsipinicon State Park in Anamosa.

Participants will have the opportunity to walk or run through our beautiful state park while helping to support the Coalition’s efforts to reduce and prevent youth substance use. All proceeds go straight to the Coalition thanks to its sponsors.

New this year, the Coalition is partnering with Carlson College of Massage Therapy, which will be providing post race massages for participants.

The Coalition’s 5K is one of its five major fundraising events throughout the year. Fundraising has become more important since its major funding source for the past 10.5 years, the Drug Free Communities grant, recently ended. Since 2002, there has been a 37 percent decrease in binge drinking by Jones County youth. The county has also seen a 15 percent decrease in youth tobacco use since 2008, and a 5 percent decrease in youth marijuana use.

The Coalition’s Purse and Accessory sale is coming up June 15, followed by its summer garage sale.
